Authorities identified the woman who drowned after an ATV she was riding on went through the ice late Friday night. At 11:54 p.m. Friday, the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about two people who broke through the ice while operating an ATV on Grace Lake in northeast Hubbard County, according to a release Monday from Scott Parks, chief deputy with the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office. The two individuals were later identified as Ethan Oftedahl, 27, rural Bemidji, and Lauren Lund, 23, of Bemidji.
Dale A. Maves, 75, of Park Rapids died and three teenagers were injured in a crash on an icy, snow-covered U.S. Highway 71. The accident occurred in Guthrie Township, south of County Road 44, about 16 miles south of Bemidji. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2002 Subaru Legacy driven by Elise Sikes, 18, of Hudson, Wis., was driving south on U.S. Highway 71 Thursday morning about 9:50 a.m when it lost control and collided with a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle heading north driven by Maves.
